(Page Last Updated:  2008-02-14 )

These pages are maintained by Mardon Erbland with assistance from my sister, Marsha.  Originally we thought that we had more photographs and information about Versailles than about any other branch of our family, so we focused this site on Versailles, Cattaraugus County, New York.  As we started putting our family documents and photographs together, however, we realized that we had materials about many other people and places.  As a result, the site has grown well beyond its original Versailles-only focus.

This ancestry chart (in PDF format) provides a snapshot of our known family history. (See our Meek Page for a caveat about the early Meeks.)  A second PDF chart (11MB download!) focuses on the Erbland line and especially its roots in Alsace. Donald Erbland was accepted  as a member of the John Stark Chapter of the Ohio Society of the Sons of the American Revolution on 1944-10-09, by virtue of his Meek linage, with National Number 64652 and State No. 3462 Although not currently an active SAR member Donald's son, Mardon Erbland, was accepted into the SAR in 1986 with National No. 125638 and State No. 6900.

Please Note:  This site makes extensive use of PDF files.  In order to view these files, you need to have installed Adobe's free Acrobat Reader software.  It is also important that you keep your Acrobat Reader software up-to-date with the most recent version.  Some of the PDF files on this site can only be read with Acrobat Reader Version 5.0 or later!

Since the original Versailles Web Site has outgrown itself, this site is now divided into five major sections; the first of which still deals with the Versailles material.

Accuracy:

Although the information presented on this web site is accurate to the best of our knowledge, we have made no attempt to meet the rigorous standards of proof required to document lineage for genealogical purposes.  That is why we describe our site as "A Photographic Scrapbook".  See the article, "Computerized Trolling" by Richard A. Pence, for some interesting comments on Web sites vis-à-vis genealogical standards.
