Photos from Terry Will Brown

Terry Will Brown was always interested in photography.  He worked with black & white prints, 35 mm color transparencies and 35 mm Kodak Realist Stereo transparencies.  He processed most of his own B & W images.  While working in his home darkroom, he frequently made reprints of older family photographs. Many of Terry's photographs are scenery shots taken during the numerous vacations enjoyed by Terry and his wife, Ruth (nee Kimble). Other photographs relate to his hobbies (including collecting guns & military antiquities and playing in pipe & drum bands) or they relate to his colleagues from the East Ohio Gas Company, where he worked. The source photos for the images on this page are all taken from Terry's collection.  Many of the people are unidentified.  People who are identified often have no connection with either the Brown or Erbland families beyond the fact that they were friends or acquaintances of Terry and Ruth's. Although these images do not have a direct connection with either Erbland or Brown family history, we have chosen to publish them here because they are 'old and interesting' and they do have an indirect connection to the Brown family via Terry.  Alas, I only wish that Terry had written on more of them to identify their subject matter.

Warstler Cemetery is the scene of this image from June, 1917. The reverse side of the source photo reads, "In Warstlers Cemetery June 1917". The identity of these people is not known. It is assumed that it was taken at the cemetery in Middlebranch, Plain Twp., that is now known as "Henry Cemetery", located at coordinates N40º 51.575' W081º 20.163' (WGS84).  This cemetery was formerly known as "(Henry) Warstler Church Cemetery".

Unknown man standing in front of a school building. The building in the background has carving in the stonework over the doorway that reads, "PUBLIC SCHOOL". This is also a date carved in the stonework above the window but it is too fuzzy to decipher accurately.  It looks like it may read "1889". There is writing on the reverse side of the source photo which appears to be something like "James G. A. Hershey".

Parnassus Presbyterian Church ladies' Sunday school class in New Kensington, PA.  Ruth Kimble, who married Terry Will Brown, is in the back row of this photo, 3rd woman from the right.  She was born in 1894, so I'm guessing this photo is circa 1920.
